KSUHSMUN
Roles

Delegates

High school students represent the delegates. Delegates are in turn representing a sovereign nation before a United Nations body -- a committee, a council, or the General Assembly. Through debate and voting, delegates will try to approve or defeat resolutions that express opinion or commit the United Nations to a course of action.

Every nation will generally have two delegates in the General Assembly and one delegate in each of the five main committees. Nations represented on the Security Council have two delegates. Delegates should be familiar with the rules of procedure, the operations of the UN, the jurisdiction of their committee, and (especially) the positions of their nation on issues considered.

World Press Corps

High school students represent the Model UN Press Corps. The purpose of the Press Corps is to expose participating students to the realities of the world press and give them handson experience with collecting, interpreting, and writing the activities of the Model UN There will be one Press Corps representative for each nation represented in the Model UN

Advisors

High school faculty represents the advisors. Advisors are available to aid delegates in preparing resolutions, speeches, and other actions. Most chambers will contain a section where advisors may be seated during the proceedings. While a body is in session, however, advisors must refrain from caucusing in chamber.

Presiding Officers

KSU students and alumni represent the President of the General assembly, the President of the Security Council, and the Committee Directors and other presiding officers. They are generally current or former members of the KSU Global Society, and the KSU Model UN Team. Each body has a presiding officer who will rule on matters of procedure and keep the simulation running smoothly.

Rapporteurs

KSU students represent the rapporteurs. They are most often members of the KSU Model UN Team and Global Society with lesser amounts of experience. Each body has one or more rapporteurs (or "raps") that shall assist the presiding officer in ensuring the smooth flow of proceedings.

Secretariat

KSU students and faculty represent the secretariat. The students are those with extensive experience and knowledge of the UN, Model UN, and international affairs. Members of the secretariat are often officers of the KSU Global Society, and current or former members of the KSU Model LN Team. The command center and auxiliary functions are staffed by the secretariat under the Secretary-General. The secretariat exists to help ensure the smooth running of the KSUHSMUN, the primary goal of which is education, and so the members of the secretariat stand ready to help advise students and others as needed.
